Instructions:
Make the 5 crosswise strips ¾”x 7”:

Cut a piece of cardboard ¾” wide and 8 ½” long.
    1. Cut a piece of iron-on Interfacing 6 ½” x 10” and iron to back of the selected fabric (red in diagram), leaving ½” on right.
    2. Fold over the right side ½” and press. This end will be loose, so the fold will hide the raw edge.
    3. Place the piece of cardboard on top of the interfacing, with the fabric side down, about ½” from the top.
    4. Fold the  top edge down onto the cardboard and press.
    5. Fold again to cover the cardboard. Press.
    6. Cut about ½” from bottom edge
    7. Press the bottom edge inside the fold and remove the cardboard.
    8. Use clips to hold the strip together and continue to make 4 more strips the same way.
    9. Top stitch around the edges.
    10. Make the 4 lengthwise strips ¾”x 8 1/2”:

      1. Cut a piece of iron-on Interfacing 6 ½” x 9” and iron to back of the selected fabric.
      2. Make the strips the same way, except both ends are sewn down, so the edge does not need to be turned in on the right.
      3. Arrange lengthwise (long) strips evenly spaced on the backing.
      4. Stitch in place at both ends 1/4" from edge
      5. Arrange vertical (short) strips evenly spaced on the backing.
      6. Stitch the raw edge of strip in place at one end, 1/4" from edge, leaving the covered end free for weaving.
